Rushing Raquettes

Raquette Falls

Rushing Raquettes
transport me into
a double-aged,
half-energy

stupor. Aroused
by a shake,
I exclaim,
“You hit that car.”

“So what?” my
Bobcat Queen
growls.

“Soo, ease up,
there’s no rush.”

Ahhh, the tranquility
of Garden State
Parkways.

“How do you feel
when I drive?”
“Bored,” purrs
the Bobby.

And swish goes
a moment’s brook,
cascading into
memories’ torrents,

from long placid lakes
into Raquette River
feeding St. Lawrence’s Gulf.

Stroke by stroke,
we canoe

Life’s wake.
