Rain threatens tomorrow
but this heavenly night can’t be
dampened. Tucked between
Marcy and Skylight, the Milky Way
Soothes teamwork-blisters formed
from wrestling high-peaks.
Boy leaders rushed ahead and
missed a fork. Dawdlers mushed on
convinced they’d been left behind.
The forest glade would have been
a perfect camp, evergreens and
maples with time to reflect.
But restless teens separated in a
wilderness know only one sure path.
Up! So reached again is Marcy’s
crest; the sluggish first, the spirited
An anxious hour later, and I,
a tension bridge stretched between,
yet thankful for new bonds
tied in a twilight pass.
